Winter workshop February 14th to 21st 2015

An 8 day workshop featuring the magnificent winter wildlife of the Norwegian mountains.

On arrival at Trondheim airport we will be met by Ole and driven two hours north west.

We will be based in a very comfortable and well appointed house specifically set up for us, with free WiFi, in the small village of Lauvsnes on the Flatanger coast.

From here the two main Eagle hides are a 20 minute drive up into the mountains, and the Goshawk hide is 5 minutes away.

The target species for this workshop are:

White-tailed Eagle

Golden Eagle

Raven

Hooded Crow

Jay

Goshawk

Red Squirrel

Dipper

* There is also the potential for: *King Eider

Ole Marten has two mountain hides, each with ample room for us all, and from which we will be able to capture stunning images of these amazing apex predators.

External temperatures can regularly dip below -15C and further but the wildlife just takes it all in its stride!

The White-tails are a fairly easy-going bird and will sometimes come to the hides in pairs - and it's not long before the Ravens, Hooded Crows and Jays show up.

But when a Golden Eagle arrives everything else vacates the area very quickly.

Golden Eagles are highly aggressive birds and will not tolerate anything else near them. This goes for other Goldens too; when two Golden Eagles try to share a meal the situation will often deteriorate into a fight very rapidly.

In a small patch of coastal woodland is Ole Martins Gos Hawk hide, where you can have the opportunity to photograph this superb, but highly elusive "killer of the woods".

She obviously doesn't like me because she's never shown when I've been in the hide; this image comes curtesy of one of my clients Mr Graham Coull !

Red Squirrels in their dark shaggy winter coats, together with Crested Tits are regular visitors to this particular hide so there's plenty to fill your flash cards with!

And if we are very, very lucky........!

Half way through the week we will have a days break from the hides and make a road trip north towards Namsskogan.

We will have the opportunity to photograph Dippers and perhaps Eider, and we also have the opportunity to visit a wildlife park where we have exclusive access inside the large enclosures of Red Fox, Arctic Fox and Lynx; species you would never get close to in a near-Arctic enviroment.

We will continue to work with the eagles for the rest of the workshop up until the late afternoon of the 20th.

After breakfast on the 21st Ole will pick us up and take us to Trondheim airport.
